Last October,2011, I've got two lifers at Eo-chung do Island, and Geum river estuary at Gun-san City.
It was more meaningful than as all lifers usually do, because these birds were first new birds that ive found after finishing military obligations.
The first one is Red collared dove, or Red turtle dove perching high up in Pine tree(Pinus thunbergi).
It was at quite a distance, and we couldn't get any moew closer view due to the terrain of Eo-chung do Island.
5 birders, including myself carefully concluded this bird as an juvenile - buffy fringes ofwing coverts.
The first impression, when one of our team found it on the tree, was just a short-tailed, small pidgeon.
After minute of confounding discussion, all of the members placed this very new bird in their own list.
Second lifer was Long billed dowitcher, it is also rare vagrant in korea. It was interesting that Red collared dove, from the south-west(India-Taiwan), and this American bird were found in this region, at Autum migration season.
Yes, they're definitely vagrat birds.
Actually I was expecting any one of those dowitchers that can appear around that season, mixed in flocks of black and bar tailed godwits. But it took about two hours of dissapointment at morning tide untill I noticed something different about a bird arrived with a flock of juvenile black tailed godwits. Short neck and short legs, were first impression of this bird, and we could find greenish yellow legs, which were diffrerent from other godwits. Unfortuately, as you can see in this photo below, the light condition was hostile, allowing us only crappy pictures of it.
Can you spot the bird?
